Musical Director – Helen Brind
Helen Brind is a choral director, singing and instrumental teacher who has lived and worked in Dorset and the surrounding areas since the mid-1980s. Helen studied Music at Southampton University, having previously attended the Royal College of Music (Junior Department) where she took lessons in singing, piano and trumpet. In 1985, on leaving university, Helen came to Dorset and soon became involved with several local musical organisations, as a performer, tutor or director. In addition to her teaching qualifications (CTABRSM and PGCE) Helen holds the LRSM in Choral Direction and the DipABRSM in Singing Performance. For several years she was a member of the Bournemouth Symphony Chorus (Semi-Chorus) and the Bournemouth Bach Choir, a group with which she has also appeared several times as a soloist
Helen is a member of the Association of British Choral Directors and has conducted in venues such as Salisbury Cathedral and St Martin-in-the-Fields, London.
Appointed Musical Director of Weymouth Choral Society in 2000, in recent years Helen has also held the post of Musical Director of Yeovil Chamber Choir, the Weatherbury Singers and The Dorset Singers (regular performers at the Stourhead Festival of the Voice). Helen also directs The Dorset Youth Singers, young vocalists who perform solo and group items as guests with local adult choirs.
In addition to her choral appointments, Helen has a busy private teaching practice and has been a peripatetic singing teacher for the Dorchester Area Schools Partnership since 2003. She also holds regular singing workshops and has worked as a music tutor for Wiltshire Adult Education Service.
Helen was appointed Musical Director of the Barclays House Choir in August 2014.
